Summer is the perfect time to sit in your backyard with a cold glass of lemonade and watch the kids play while you socialize with friends. But, if your yard is less than impressive, you’re probably not going to want to show it off.
It doesn’t have to be that way! These backyard makeovers are perfect for the DIY-er in the family! They will make your backyard the place to be for the rest of the summer.
Create a unique couch
If you’re looking for a piece of outdoor furniture without having to pay the price, you can make a couch! With a few long pieces of wood, you can put them through painted, stacked cinder blocks to make a couch. Add some printed cushions, and you’ve got extra seating for your guests.
Spruce up your patio
Is your patio a dull cement color? Add pops of fun colors with latex floor paint to bring the life back to your backyard!
Make the perfect pillow quilt
What says summer more like laying in the yard stargazing, watching a movie, having picnics, etc.? Nothing! But don’t lie on the hard ground! Sew together a bunch of pillows, (preferably colorful for a fun design), for everyone to rest on. It’s guaranteed to be a hit!
Make the cutest walkway
If you want stepping stones leading to your backyard you can make them! If you have large leaves lying around, you can make a cement mixture and spread it across the back of the leaf. After it dries, you should be able to pull the leaf off and ta-da! You have a cute, detailed walkway.
Another way to create a walkway is to use your rubber doormats. They often have fun designs on them, and you can make them the same way you did with the leaves.
Light the path
If you have a pathway going into or throughout your backyard, you can spray paint some pebbles with glow-in-the-dark paint to light the way. Just put them along the sides or in the cracks, and everyone will be able to see where they’re headed.
Create a storage table
An outdoor table is perfect to put those lemonade glasses, snacks and cute decorations. If you don’t want those pillows or citronella candles being left outside, make a bucket table to store those things inside when not in use. All you need is a wide, metal bucket sturdy enough to put a circle piece of wood on top!
Host a party
These ideas can help make your backyard the life of the party. They’re family-friendly and perfect for utilizing your space well! What other ideas would you incorporate in your yard?
